Melaka (also spelled Malacca), a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malaysia, welcomes tourists from around the world with relatively straightforward entry procedures. As part of Malaysia, travelers enter through the country's immigration system, typically arriving via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA/KLIA2) or directly into Melaka International Airport (limited international flights). All visitors must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay and a confirmed onward or return ticket. The immigration process is generally efficient, with automated gates available for eligible travelers from certain countries, while others proceed through manual passport control. Upon arrival, travelers should be prepared to present their passport, completed arrival card (if required), and any supporting documents such as hotel reservations or proof of sufficient funds if requested. Immigration officers may ask about the purpose and duration of your visit. Most tourists receive a social visit pass stamped in their passport, typically valid for 30-90 days depending on nationality. It's important to note that Melaka shares Malaysia's immigration policies, so requirements are consistent across the country. Before traveling to Melaka, visitors should verify their specific visa requirements based on nationality, ensure their passport meets validity requirements, and check for any updated health or security advisories. While entry is generally smooth for most tourists, overstaying or violating visa conditions can result in fines, detention, or being banned from re-entering Malaysia. Always keep your passport and immigration documents safe throughout your stay.
